Lavender is well-loved for fragrant, purple flowers. The plant is known for its relaxing effect – making it a natural way to help lower anxiety or induce sleep. No wonder lavender represents serenity, sincerity and spiritual healing. (If you’re curious, the calming powers attributed to lavender are thanks to linalool, one component of its scent.)

Beautiful, healthful, what’s not to love about lavender? It’s also, well, a little finicky to grow.

Your Grow Kit comes with all the seeds, soil and nutrients you need to start your journey. While the rest is up to you, don’t fret – we’re here to help!

Here are three components of lavender’s growing environment to consider to help this pretty perennial go from seed to wow.

Light
Full sun is the way to go with lavender. What does that mean exactly? Full sun is more than 6 hours of direct sunlight each day. If that sounds challenging to achieve indoors, we understand! Our Grow Lights can be scheduled for full sun setting and provide hours of light that mimics sunlight.

Temperature
Where you place your Lavender Grow Kit will depend in part on warmth. Lavender likes to be cozy. A window may provide natural light but can be drafty! Opt for a draft-free spot – away from the AC – that won’t dip below 60 degrees.

Water
Lavender prefers mostly dry soil and low humidity. To achieve that at home, try a very light misting. Over watering is one of the most common challenges – truly just a mist is what your seeds need at the start. We love our Mister for this process. Once your plant has sprouted, avoid overwatering to keep foliage dry. Watering every 7-10. Our Watering Cans can help you water your Grow Kit while protecting leaves.

How will you know it all came together? Lavender seeds will start sprouting anywhere from 14-30 days after planting. It may take a full year for the plant to reach its full blooming potential
